Dimensions features a worldwide collection of organization data focussing on academic research. Each unique record of an organization contains relevant metadata, such as location, year of establishment, web links, etc., as well as relationships between associated institutes. Dimensions captures spelling and naming variations for a given institution so that it can use data from multiple sources and automatically identify the correct institution from the information given. If data arrives with an institution either not yet included with a standardized record in Dimensions or a spelling variation not yet seen, these are picked up and manually disambiguated.

How are related organizations treated in Dimensions?

It is important to note that Dimensions does not automatically aggregate related institutes - for example, university hospitals such as Charité Berlin but also other child and parent institutions as well as other related organisations will be treated as independent institutions. This granularity allows you to perform more detailed analyses.

If you are interested in a broader definition of an institution including many institutes or medical centers, you may need to aggregate the related institutes in the interface using an OR search, or by creating a custom group. Dimensions provides information about the organizational data contained in it, including about related and child institutes, which can be helpful for aggregation, as well as an option to download the organizational metadata.

Please note - the Research Organization filter and access to organizational data in Dimensions are only available if you have a Dimensions subscription, and are not present in the Free version of Dimensions.
